A Little Bit About Me

My name is Lizzie and I am a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist for adults and couples. I have been working therapeutically in both private practice and charitable organisations in Oxfordshire and Sydney since 2009.

My early working life was spent working in the Corporate Sector, however, after 12 years or so, I began to have a change of focus and realised that I had an unmet interest and passion in working directly with people in community-based settings.  And so, began my change of career.  Since 2006, I have worked in various private and public sector organisations and charities that work with vulnerable adults, young people and families.  This has included working in areas such as adult and young peoples homelessness, housing and support for complex needs teenagers in the care system, mental health, housing and support for unaccompanied asylum seekers, substance misuse and education.  This work has been and continues to be a great support for my therapeutic work.

My therapeutic approach is holistic and relational.  Working holistically means that I believe all aspects of being human are connected and therefore cannot be treated separately.  I work with you as a whole person, paying attention to both physical and psychological processes and how they link together.  Working relationally means that I bring myself into the therapeutic relationship with you as another human being, sharing my responses, thoughts and feelings with you.  I use our relationship as a way of raising your awareness of how you might be relating with and experiencing the world around you.

I also work creatively which means there is an opportunity to work in ways that suit you.  For some people, talking therapy by itself isn't always the answer. As well as talking through issues, our work can include the use of art, music, drama, poetry or movement as a way to explore some of your issues, if this is supportive for you.

I have a particular interest in themes of identity, belonging, intimacy, loneliness and connection.
